    Ruminate Magazine Announces Fiction Contest

    Ruminate Magazine recently announced this year's William Van Dyke Short Story contest, judged by writer Mark Richard.

    Guidelines:

    - The submission deadline for the short story contest has been extended to midnight October 26th, 2012.

    - The entry fee is $15 (includes a free copy of the Spring 2013 Issue).

    - You may submit one short story per contest entry and it must be 5500 words or less. There is no limit on the number of entries per person.

    New Novel by David Bergen

    Canadian Mennonite author David Bergen released his seventh novel, The Age of Hope through Harper Collins Press.

    Set in Winnipeg during the 1930s, The Age of Hope tells the story of Hope Koop, a woman trying to navigate the demands of motherhood, marriage, and domestic duties. She finds herself needing to decide between traditionalism and a broader way of percieving the world.

    Mennonite Life welcomes submissions that deal with the broad intersection of academia and Mennonite theology and experience. Submissions that deal with the arts, literature, science, education, history and other academic areas are all invited. Articles and essays should be accessible to a general audience and preference will be given for submissions that include elements particularly well-suited for online publications, such as photos, audio files, links to other sites or other multi-media approaches.     Manitoba Mennonites--Rhubarb Magazine Special Issuee

    The May issue of Rhubarb magazine featured writing by Manitoba Mennonite writers as well as three essays on the subject by Hildi Froese-Tiessen, Maurice Mierau and David Elias. The issue is available for $10.00 by emailing info@rhubarbmag.com and sending a cheque made out to the Mennonite Literary Society at 606-100 Arthur Street, Winnipeg, MB, R3B 1H3.

    Three issue (annual) subscriptions are $30.00, next three themes plan to address what are often considered taboo in polite mennonite company - Money (December) Sex (March 2013) and Poltics (June 2013). Mennonite Literary Society memberships are $40, which includes a subscription.
