Special Issue on Money. Submission deadline: September 1, 2012

RHUBARB CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

MONEY ISSUE RHUBARB #31

Deadline September 1, 2012

Publication Date: November 2012

Rhubarb Magazine is publishing a special issue with Money as its theme. We are looking for new unpublished work from writers and artists who self-define as Mennonites whether practising, declined, or refusing to acknowledge their inheritance.

What about Mennonite inheritance? Bequests? What is the business of being Mennonite? We have communities known for the most generous per capita charitable giving (Abbottsford – with Steinbach close behind) and the most millionaires per capita (Steinbach gets this one). We’ve got some crack guest editors that are rubbing their hands in anticipation. Submitting to Rhubarb doesn’t cost a cent if you submit by email, which we prefer at submit@rhubarbmag.com

We will accept regular mail submissions for this issue sent to MLS 606-100 Arthur Street, Winnipeg, MB R3B 1H3.

Rhubarb is also running a contest with money as its theme for $30.00. You win whatever happens. You get a subscription worth $30.00, and a shot at hundreds of dollars. See contest details elsewhere this issue.

SUBMISSIONS: Email submissions preferred. Attachments accepted in

Word doc or docx, images Tiff or Jpeg. Email all submissions to

submit@rhubarbmag.com

GUEST EDITORS:

Poetry: Maurice Mierau

Fiction: Armin Wiebe

Non- fiction: Aiden Enns

GENERAL GUIDELINES

Writing should be clear, stimulating and persuasive without being obviously didactic. Rhubarb publishes poetry of up to 30 lines, creative non-fiction and short fiction of up to 2,500 words and black and white artwork including high contrast photographs that reproduce well in the magazine printing process. Some colour images are used, one for the cover and the inside for an art feature, not necessarily by the same artist.

Rhubarb also publishes humour, book reviews, commentary, issues analysis and articles related to the theme. Contact Sarah Klassen klassens@mymts.net if you wish to review for us and Victor Enns at venns@mymts.net for the rest.

All submissions should include a short bio and the full name and address of the contributor. Names should be on every page to avoid danger of your masterwork being credited to another. We begin sending contributor agreements to accepted submissions with this issue. Payment is $50.00 upon publication.

Future themes: Rhubarb 32 – Sex ; Rhubarb 33 – Politics
