The 5th Mennonite/s Writing Conference, "Mennonite/s Writing in Manitoba," will be held at the University of Winnipeg in Manitoba, Canada, October 1-4, 2009. The conference will begin on Thursday evening, October 1, and will feature major readings on Thursday and Friday evenings, academic plenary sessions on Friday and Saturday during the day, and an all-day bus tour of major Mennonite literary sites/sights of southern Manitoba all day Sunday.
Writers who have agreed to read from their work include Rudy Wiebe, Armin Wiebe, Sarah Klassen, Di Brandt, Patrick Friesen, David Bergen, David Elias, David Waltner-Toews, Sandra Birdsell, and others. We will post registration and lodging information as it becomes available. See the conference Web site for more information.
Academic sessions will take place at the University of Winnipeg's newly refurbished Convocation hall rather than in the previously announced Eckhardt-Gramette Hall.

I am interested in the conference. Could you send me more information?
Ann Hostetler
Dear Loretta and other interested parties. See the link to the conference site, also listed under "links to events" under our encyclopedia section. My understanding is that this website will be updated as information is available. http://mennonitestudies.uwinnipeg.ca/events/mennolitad08.php
We will be posting more information on our site as we receive it. Here's a bit more information as of 5-12-09:
The conference will begin on the Thursday evening, October 1, and will feature major readings in the evenings of Thursday and Friday at least, and an all-day bus tour of major Mennonite literary sites/sights of southern Manitoba all day Sunday. Writers who have agreed to read from their work include Rudy Wiebe, Armin Wiebe, Sarah Klassen, Di Brandt, Patrick Friesen, David Bergen, David Elias, David Waltner-Toews, Sandra Birdsell, and others. Some of the writers will accompany us on the bus tour, to provide commentary, and to perform a few “mini-readings.”
All academic sessions will be plenary sessions in keeping with our desire to lend an air of intimacy to the event. The academic sessions will take place during the day Friday and Saturday (October 2 and 3).
There will be no conference registration, but people will be required to register for the bus tour (we will hire as many bus coaches as we need).
The conference sessions will take place in the University’s newly-refurbished Convocation Hall rather than in the previously announced Eckhardt-Gramette Hall.
